Jennifer Anderson

Managing Partner, Chief Talent Officer

As Chief Talent Officer, Jen is responsible for all facets of New Profit’s people strategy, including recruiting and onboarding, performance management, professional development, and employee engagement. Jen partners with New Profit’s senior leaders, staff, and key stakeholders to expand the impact, scope, and effectiveness of the organization’s talent initiatives and create an environment in which all team members can reach their fullest potential.

Jen traces her passion for talent and organizational development back to her childhood, when she loved organizing and coaching her three younger siblings. She initially pursued a Ph.D. in Latin American History, but following countless solitary hours in the library, Jen realized that her work as a teaching assistant made her happiest. She left the Ph.D. program with her master’s degree to find a path that would enable her to work more directly with people. The decision to leave was one of the most formative of her life and she never looked back.

Jen joined New Profit in 2004 as special projects manager for CEO Vanessa Kirsch, supporting a variety of efforts including the first several Gathering of Leaders, New Profit’s annual signature event now in its 11th year. From 2007-2010, Jen served as New Profit’s first Director of Communications, building New Profit’s communications function and overseeing strategy development, print publications, and online presence. In 2011, Jen was asked to become New Profit’s first Chief Talent Officer following several years of informal coaching and professional development work supporting her colleagues at New Profit. Jen describes the talent role as the most fulfilling of her career and where she is meant to be.

Prior to joining New Profit, Jen spent two years living in Puerto Natales, a small town on the Última Esperanza sound in the far south of Chile. There, at “el fin del mundo,” she pursued her passion for Spanish language (and Chilean sayings), food and wine, and Patagonian landscape and culture. Prior to moving abroad, Jen worked at the Corporate Executive Board in Washington, DC, for nearly five years during a period of intense growth for the company. Jen received her master’s degree in Latin American History from Cornell University and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from William Smith College.

Jen is an urban dweller and lives in the South End where her oldest child recently began kindergarten at a Boston Public School. When she’s not chasing after her two daughters, she loves eating out, cooking in, and traveling.
