This past year, New Profit made two new investments, growing the active portfolio to 19 organizations that are impacting in the lives of children and families across the country. In the midst of a difficult fundraising environment and a growing demand for their services, the portfolio's performance exceeded goals for growth in revenue and lives touched. In addition, the portfolio also continued to outperform other high-growth nonprofits identified by Fast Company magazine and the Bridgespan Group.

In 2009-10, we also accelerated our work to build an environment in which all social entrepreneurs can realize significantly greater impact on the problems they seek to solve. America Forward achieved three key milestones with the passage of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the creation of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, and the launch of the Social Innovation Fund. The 2010 Gathering of Leaders also provided an opportunity for social innovators to explore measurement and impact in light of an unprecedented political and social environment for furthering social problem solving.
