New Profit supports social entrepreneurs and organizations whose ideas have the potential to address the root causes of our nation’s most pressing social problems. We seek to create a broad community of scaled, high-impact organizations achieving transformative social change.

Applicants must meet two initial criteria to be considered for New Profit support:

• Have established 501c-3 status
• Be headquartered in North America with United States or international operations

New Profit chooses portfolio organizations using a rigorous evaluation process against key selection criteria. Our due diligence process involves New Profit investors, board members, and peer social entrepreneurs who select a small number of investments each year from a pool of several hundred candidates. We view the due diligence process as critical preparation for undertaking long-term partnerships with potential portfolio organizations, spending approximately 80 hours with finalists to determine an organization’s fit.

New Profit Selection Criteria
High Social Impact	Ability of organization to meet an urgent, widespread social need with a high quality service or product through a model with the potential to grow to scale and to fundamentally transform the sector
Social Entrepreneur & Leadership Team	Ability of social entrepreneur (Founder/CEO) to build and execute on a compelling vision for transformational social change by recruiting and inspiring a talented, committed management team and Board of Directors
Previous Performance	Evidence of the organization’s ability to deliver high quality results, navigate growth challenges, manage finances effectively and build a brand identity
Capacity For Growth	Evidence of a clearly defined and broadly understood organizational mission and strategy, vibrant culture in support of that mission, strong prospects for growth, and willingness to invest in critical systems and infrastructure as the foundation for growth
New Profit Fit & Value-Add	Potential for New Profit to impact the organization, openness of entrepreneur to working with a highly engaged investor, shared commitment to each other’s missions, and ability to contribute to achievement of New Profit’s goals and criteria for selection
