New Teacher Center

Developing the next generation of teachers and school leaders

New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit dedicated to improving student learning by accelerating the effectiveness of new teachers and school leaders.

CEO and Founder Ellen Moir was both a bold, visionary leader capable of attracting resources and changing systems, and a pragmatic operator with demonstrated effectiveness building an organization.
- Shruti Sehra,
Partner, Reimagine Learning Fund

In late 2014, NTC partnered with leading researchers to analyze years worth of data and lessons learned from its model to produce a gold-standard study on teacher retention and recruitment.

2011: New Profit and Deloitte's Monitor Institute help develop NTC's 2013-2015 growth plan, which led to closing some program sites to dramatically increasing quality across other sites.

NTC works with schools districts, state policymakers and educators across the country to develop and implement induction programs aligned with district learning goals.

NTC is currently working with America Forward to highlight teacher effectiveness issues in the debate over the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

3rd party studies demonstrate statistically significant impact, and NTC wins one of the largest U.S. Department of Education Investing in Innovation Fund (i3) grants, receiving $16M for more extensive evaluation.

NTC harnesses technology and successfully pilots its online model to reach new teachers in rural settings, greatly expanding its reach!

In 2013, New Profit made a second investment of $3 million in NTC and pledged to work with NTC to further strengthen its model and fundraising efforts. At the time, NTC also became an early collaborator in the development of the Reimagine Learning Fund.

2010: New Profit invests $1 million in New Teacher Center, which had recently established itself as a 501c3 separate from the University of California and was emerging as a recognized brand and field leader in education reform.
