Gathering of Leaders

The 2018 Gathering of Leaders gathered over 400 leaders in Boston to celebrate New Profit’s 20 years of venture philanthropy investing in breakthrough leaders and systems change initiatives and to engage in dialogue on three key topics that are critical to the future success of the social impact sector: capitalizing diverse leaders and organizations, advancing system entrepreneurship, and grappling with the disruptive forces changing our economy and world and what they mean for the future and our work.

The 2017 Gathering of Leaders brought together 290 participants in Atlanta, GA for rich conversations on the unfolding of the 2016 Presidential election; race, bias, equity and inclusion and what it means for philanthropy and the social sector; and the need for systems entrepreneurship to drive sustained large-scale social impact. Key speakers included former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young, Van Jones (Dream Corps), Michaela Angela Davis (MAD FREE and CNN), and James Fallows (The Atlantic and the American Futures Project).

The 2016 Gathering of Leaders was an extraordinary example of what can happen with honesty and collaboration. It was a one-two punch of soulful connection and hard-edged, challenging content that propels our field forward. The Gathering featured challenging material—especially on race, inclusion, equity and their connection to social impact—in a way that inspired candor and vulnerability, and lifted up practical examples of how leaders and organizations are tacking these challenges.
