Brian Screnar


Brian is responsible for launching and directing New Profit’s operations in Seattle. In his role, Brian oversees community outreach, strategic communications and brand development in the Puget Sound region and the west coast. Additionally, he cultivates and manages individual investor and foundation engagement, and regional social entrepreneur development.

Brian believes we all have a personal imperative to be active members of society through civic participation and community engagement. He seeks out opportunities to sign up, stand up and reach out. He is an adventurer and believes in the power of intrepidness and intellectual curiosity. He seeks out ways to expand his horizons and tries to learn something new every day.

Prior to his work at New Profit, Brian served as chief of staff to the Founder & CEO of Intellectual Ventures, a venture capital firm based in Bellevue, WA. In this role, Brian coordinated internal business operations and managed priority initiatives and strategic communications for Dr. Nathan Myhrvold. Previously, Brian served as state director for Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) overseeing the Senator’s policy and outreach priorities and federal operations in Washington state. Prior to his position with Senator Cantwell, Brian served on Secretary Ken Salazar’s senior leadership team at the U.S. Department of the Interior. During his tenure, Brian oversaw the Secretary’s initial political appointments and organizational structure, and managed key departmental operations and policy initiatives, including inter-agency crisis management operations for the Deepwater Horizon Incident. Additionally, his prior roles include serving as finance director for the 2009 Obama-Biden Presidential Inaugural Committee and deputy finance director on President Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, where he oversaw daily fundraising operations and strategic finance development. Brian also served as finance director for Senator John Edwards’ 2004 Presidential campaign. Brian is a graduate of Tulane University.

Brian is a native of Bozeman, MT. He is an avid skier and white-water rafter, as well as being a bit of a WWII buff. He has five rambunctious nieces and nephews.
